Lesbians in Thailand: The Common Misconceptions Revolving Around

There are a lot of misconceptions about lesbians in Thailand 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩 You may also be confused about what is real and what is not. I'm also one of them; I know them well, and I'm living with them; hearing such stuff motivated me to take time to prove the contrary to some of the most common myths and misconceptions about lesbians in Thailand 👭

A lesbian is a woman who is physically and romantically attracted to another woman 👩‍❤️‍👩 Unfortunately, for some reason, our identity comes with many misconceptions and inferences that vary from casually cute to coolly destructive 👭 So I'm going to put up with this chance to give my understanding and kick out all the stupid, unfamiliar misconceptions I have heard over the years in Thailand and worldwide.

So, there are so many things to share with you. If you have any misconceptions about us, they will disappear when you finish reading this 🚺❤🚺

🏳️‍🌈 Fun fact

The first observation of lesbianism in world history is in the Code of Hammurabi, a Babylonian code of legislation from about 1700 B.C. that authorized women to marry each other.

Myths and Misconceptions About Lesbians Staying in Thailand

Some people may think that because we aren’t sexually or romantically attracted to men, we hate them 👭 But most lesbians have connections and professional relationships with men. I also have had my close companion, guys, for a long time.

Despite the fact we always get seriously accused of this, we’re perfectly fine with men 👩‍❤️‍👩 Some aren’t the best, of course, but neither are plenty of women. Lots of people aren’t incredible. But if we're generalizing a whole gender, we wouldn't be that great either. Men, you can stay, and we even enjoy your company! We actually don’t want to escape from you 👭

An additional misconception is that one person in a lesbian relationship must take up a man's role. One partner may play a more traditionally masculine part, but that isn't certainly the model 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩 Each relationship is distinct. The gender dynamic is sure of the specific people affected and how they interact with each other. Especially in an LGBT paradise like Thailand, no one will need to be a man to protect others; they are safe here.

There are also stereotypes that we especially like to wear flannel shirts or we are tough and enjoy playing sports. But you can't specify a Thai lesbian by their preferred clothes or activities. It's just through the feelings 👭

Considering the transmission of HIV among lesbians, some may think that it may be none. Still, the threat of transmission of HIV between women is weak-not inexistent 👭 Several cases of sexual transmission of HIV between women have been recognized. In addition, some sexual practices among women also endanger them at risk of HIV contamination 👩‍❤️‍👩

Relationships between women can occasionally be deemed by society as being less serious and not permanent. Love does not know sexual orientation 👭 When one loves, the feelings have the same emphasis, whether homosexual or heterosexual. Although being accepted as a couple, especially by friends and family, partakes in self-esteem, the lasting of the relationship will depend on the couple's thoughts 🚺❤🚺

🏳️‍🌈 Trivia

If you have watched even one episode of a TV series or a lesbian movie, you likely know where these misconceptions gained their underpinning: television and media.

Other Myths and Misconceptions About Lesbians

1. Lesbians can’t understand their sexuality without dating or being in a relationship.

Strangely, some people might try to fight sexuality if they've never been in a relationship with a woman or don't date 👩‍❤️‍👩 "But how do you know you're a lesbian" is always a fun question to get asked.

It's perfectly reasonable to know who you're persuaded to be without being wrapped in the arms of a person of that gender 👭 In short: you know. If you're still figuring it out, you shouldn't have to defend your journey or personal life to anyone. And you definitely shouldn't feel pressured to date simply because you need to 'defend' your identity 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩

2. Lesbians are considered experts in 'cunnilingus.'

Let me say anyone who believes that lesbians hold the key to the best oral sex one can attain in life is just flat-out wrong 👩‍❤️‍👩 Just like any individual, practice makes perfect, but never an ideal.

What one person may feel good about may differ from what another individual feels about it. On to this outstanding attitude, some lesbians don’t enjoy receiving oral sex all that much, and some do. However, just because someone is of the woman-loving persuasion does not make them an expert in this specific activity 👭

3. Cervical cancer concerns only heterosexual women, particularly in developing countries like Thailand.

Cervical cancer is one of the most common types of cancer found in women worldwide. Any woman with same-sex or heterosexual relationships can be a carrier of HPV (the Human Papilloma Virus) 👩‍❤️‍👩  HPV infection is supposed to be the most common STI on the planet. Some virus varieties can play an essential role in the appearance of cervical cancer. So, we also have a risk! 🚺❤🚺

4. Two women cannot share a true sexual experience.

The existence of female sexuality is a “recent discovery” that goes together back to the end of the 1960s when the fight for women’s rights was taking place 👩‍❤️‍👩 If lesbians also profited from sexual freedom, the belief that two women cannot share a true sexual experience is, on the other hand, still extensive 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩 But no one can say that a relationship is limited to sex. If the couple is satisfied, it is a real sexual experience.

5. Lesbians can't be spiritual in such a Buddhist country.

While some groups consider homosexuality a sin, many beliefs and congregations approve of all humans regardless of any variations 👭 Spirituality is a personal belief system that has nothing to do with organized practices or sexual priorities. Thailand is a tolerant country popular as a gay and lesbian destination, so it never plays with our feelings 🚺❤🚺

🏳️‍🌈 Did you know?

These myths about lesbians are just - myths. But, as with any genre of myths, there's the impression of reality, so some people believe them. Now that you have the truth about these lesbian myths, you can prove the contrary the next time you hear someone repeat them.

Lesbians in Thailand: The Common Misconceptions Revolving Around

So what do you think of it now? Well, we are also normal people, just like anyone else 👩‍❤️‍👩 As lesbians, we have unique choices, identities, attitudes, hopes and dreams, goals for the future, ways of dressing, hobbies we enjoy, intentions, and feelings about the world around us 👭

One thing I can clearly say for all of us, not only in Thailand but also all over the world, is that we’re tired of the revolving misconceptions around us 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩  We hope that after this, you won't be one of those still curious individuals thinking that we’re all the same.

Get to know us a little better, and you’ll see that we’re all individuals rather than one large gathering of a singular way of life 🚺❤🚺
